Icelandic Textile Center

I’ve been dissatisfied at work for quite some time. I’ve been searching for a new job for several months, but haven’t had any luck. After a re-org at work I was feeling especially anxious to find something new. A friend from a stitching group shared a link to the Icelandic Textile Center Residency Program and I read everything about it. It was exciting to think about! I talked to Mister and he encouraged me to apply. I was shocked when I was accepted. I’m taking a big leap – I gave notice at my job and I’m going to spend the month of February 2022 in Iceland, weaving and creating. And watching the northern lights! I’ll start my job search when I return (but let’s not think about that yet).

The Textile Center is located in Blönduós, a four hour drive from Reykjavík. It is a former women’s college with living quarters and multiple studios for weaving, dyeing, felting, sewing, etc.

I have looked up many of the current and past artists – and they create really beautiful works of art. I do feel a bit out of my league as I’m a new weaver and have never made a living as a weaver or artist. But I’m hopeful I will learn a lot and make some lasting friendships while I am there.

I will write a post soon detailing my project plans.
