Handwoven Cards using the Spark Loom

An easy and elegant gift

I recently bought Amy D. McKnight’s Spark Loom. My favorite project so far using the loom + kit is handwoven cards. I’ll show you how I did it.

*12 dent heddle
*8/2 cotton for the warp
*Variety of scrap & specialty yarn + roving for the weft
*58″ warp

Click HERE for a video showing my first attempt at warping the spark loom using the indirect warping method and HERE for my second attempt using warping pegs on a table + a button!

I tried a few different cards:

Papermania Tri-fold Aperture Cards – MY FAVORITE. I used double-sided tape and glue dots to secure the woven cloth + seal the card.

Strathmore Trading Cards – It was tricky to slip cloth into the slot.

Strathmore Mounting Cards – Easy – but the woven cloth must be hemmed. I used double-sided tape (and these cards came with double-sided stickers).

4×6 Photo Frame Cards – Impossible to slide woven cloth in the slot. I ended up using photo prints of my embroideries.

For the aperture tri-fold cards I measured 3″ blocks, sewed 2 seams and cut between. I did this for the entire length of the cloth and ended up with 11 pieces.

Now I know what to do with all those little samplers I’ve been making!

  2. Now I know what to do with all the card making supplies I have left over from my StampinUp days and now all my thrums! 🧐
    Great ideas!!
