Weaving Instructors

How I learned to weave

I decided the summer of 2019 that I wanted to learn how to weave on a rigid heddle loom. I knew I wanted an in-person class and I found the Pioneer Craft House in Salt Lake City that offers many art education classes, including weaving. I had just missed the summer class and had to wait until January 2020. For six months I watched rigid heddle weaving videos on YouTube. I credit Kelly Casanova for getting me hooked!

I was able to take two rigid heddle classes at Pioneer Craft House from Terri Pianka before the pandemic hit. I rented a Schacht Cricket Loom for both classes. I made a scarf and a table runner.

After discussing loom options with Terri, I decided to buy an Ashford 48″ loom. I knew I liked to weave, and I wanted one loom for all project sizes. At first I bought yarn and started experimenting. To see all of my projects, check out my RebaWeaves Instagram account.

Over the months I also bought classes from Kelly Casanova. She is an excellent instructor – she provides hours of videos on each course and detailed instructions on how to plan for and execute each project. I’ve signed up for her Japanese Journey Masterclass, Clasped Warp Quechquemitl Wrap, Log Cabin Table runner, Tote Bag, and Overshot classes.

My three favorite instructors: Amy D. McKnight, Kelly Casanova, and Liz Gipson

Liz Gipson – Yarnworker

I signed up for one of Liz’s weave-a-longs and loved her style of teaching. I started to support her on Patreon for extra insight and access to all of her WALs.

Amy D. McKnight

I started following Amy on Instagram and was so excited when she announced she was starting her own creative weaving community. I signed up and it has been really fun to be part of a supportive and creative community. I’ve done a couple WALs with Amy, and she really helps weavers become more creative and to think outside the box.

    1. Thank you! It’s a lot of work to write blog posts so I’ve been slow to update. Thanks for reading 🙂
