Since writing Varafeldur Part One, I discovered another textile artist who not only has made varafeldurs, but she also wrote an article based on her research that was published in the Archaeological Textiles Review, issue 63. Julia Hopkin is an archaeological researcher at the University of Exeter in the UK. I am grateful for her work – it has helped me understand the varafeldur more.

I’ve been planning to learn how to use a countermarch loom at the Textile Center to weave my varafeldur but I just learned they have a rigid heddle loom. If I can’t figure out the countermarch, I have a backup that I DO know how to use! They also have a tapestry loom I could try.
