In my last post, I forgot to include how I prepared to be permitted to enter Iceland. I carefully watched the Iceland pre-registration site to make sure I was aware of any changes.
Here’s what I had to do:
1. Have a covid test (rapid tests not allowed) taken 72 hours or less from the time my flight from the US departed for Iceland. AND I needed to have a copy of the results. Because it was really hard to get test appointments, I paid more for a guaranteed test. Later I was able to get an appointment at Walgreens. I got both results 24 hours before my flight departure!
2. Register on the Iceland registration site 72 hours or less from the time of my flight. The registration required I upload scans of my passport and vaccination cards. I also was required to have a covid test within 2 days of my arrival, and I selected to be tested at the airport.
3. Complete form C, as I am considered a student, and include my acceptance letter from the Textile Center.
When I checked in at the Salt Lake airport, I was required to present my vaccination cards and negative covid test results. In Seattle, where I connected to my flight to Iceland, I was required to show my barcode (although it wasn’t scanned), vaccination cards, and negative covid test.
Iceland Customs asked how long I was staying and asked for my barcode – but it wasn’t scanned. Then I found my luggage and went through a second line. My barcode was scanned, they asked for my negative covid test result, then directed me to the testing area. It was a mouth and nose swab. It was my first time with a deep nasal swab – it felt like it hit my brain! The results were sent via text message within 24 hours (still negative!).
